2024 CHILDHOOD CANCER SURVIVOR GRADUATE DANE!
Updated: Aug 20
“Dane was born with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 but he wasn’t diagnosed until the day before his second birthday. With the diagnosis was the fact that Dane has a tumour (Optical Glioma) on both of his optic nerves. Dane had frequent MRI’s through the years. From a routine MRI in the summer of 2016 at the age of 11 it was discovered that Dane’s optic gliomas had grown and were affecting his eyesight. Dane was referred to CancerCare Manitoba for treatment. Dane underwent 68 weeks of treatment starting in the fall of 2016 and the last dose was given on January 2, 2018. The prognosis was good and the gliomas had shrunk. Dane has yearly MRI to make sure nothing has changed with the gliomas and his vision.
Dane’s high school diploma was earned by attending both Springfield Collegiate Institute and Louis Riel Arts and Technology Centre. Dane attended the Arts and Technology Centre for the second half of grade 11 and the first half of grade 12 for the Automotive Technology course. Dane graduated at the age of 19 from Springfield Collegiate Institute on June 27th. Dane also received his certificate in Automotive Technology from the Louis Riel Arts and Technology Centre on June 26th. Dane also received a bursary from the SCI graduation as he plans to pursue a career in automotive. For the first year out of school he is going to work and then plans to apply to register for Red River Polytechnic College for the fall of 2025.”
Congratulations Dane! Never stop believing in yourself. You’ve already proven that nothing can stand in your way when it comes to accomplishing your goals! ♥️🎗️
